New York Fashion Week

Fashion has always been a big thing in New York, afterall New York is one of the fashion capital of the world. Needless to say New York Fashion Week brings the whole city to a standstill.

At the moment I am absolutely loving the tribal print and colour combination seen in the BCBG Max Azria collection. The tribal print is used cleverly in this collection, it doesn't dominate the piece but yet it plays a key part in the overall design of the piece. Blue tone can also be seen throughout this collection, whether it is royal blue, navy or aqua.

More on the colour trends as showcased in various shows, the bold colours seems to be going strong. With the DKNY and Victoria Beckham show echoing the same trend with navy/royal blue, orange and fire red tones in their pieces.

2011 Melbourne Spring Fashion Week

What better way to christen this blog by starting with post on the 2011 Melbourne Spring Fashion Week.
There has been countless talks of the significance of the this year's Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. One of which is, despite the tough economic time that we are facing today and consumers' tightening of their spending, the is an increase interest in the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. The grounds on which the industry is basing this on, is the increase in demand for tickets to the fashion shows.

I for one is not a fan of the fashion shows, this is due to the bad experiences that I have had previously when I did go. Let me elaborate...

I still remember a few years back when I was fortunately enough to be in London during the London Fashion Week, the energy in London is absolutely electrifying. Now if I want to go to a fashion show, I would go to one during London Fashion Week, not because I am a snob of local fashion, but because I truly believe that the purpose of having fashion week is to set the creative direction and trend for the industry. Linking this back to fashion shows at the Melbourne Fashion Week, more often than not, the fashion shows showcase the pieces from their label's current collection. I for one think that if I want to see the current collection, I could easily walk into their boutiques and browse the rack. This experience would provide greater satisfaction as I can touch and feel the fabrics.

Some people might beg to defer, but this is my honest opinion...

I think that it is time that Australian designers step up to the part. I truly believe our designers have the foresight to also set the creative direction for the industry. It's is time we say "no" to our industrie's copy cat behaviour.
